Rimi Natsukawa (夏川 りみ, ) is a Japanese folk singer who performs Ryukyuan music. Her genre is sometimes referred to as Kayokyoku but it is stated on her website that it is Okinawan Folk. She blends traditional music elements with modern elements, which gives her a characteristic sound. Her album Single Collection Vol. 1, has been awarded the Nihon Record Grand Prize for excellence.

If you dont know Rimi Natsukawa yet, start with the Albums Teida Taiyou, Okinawa Kaze or the Singles Collection. Those 3 Albums will leave you wanting for more !

Hotel Hibiskus is an Japanese Movie telling the story of Okinawa family that runs an old Hotel ( with just one guest ) The mainstar of the movie is the little tom-boy girl MIEKO and the Island Okinawa and all their friendly and relaxed people. If you wanna see and enjoy little of the atmophere of Okinawa - I recommend watching this movie !

The Yoshida Brothers

The Yoshida Kyōdai are Japanese musicians and have released several albums, internationally known as the Yoshida Brothers.

They are a pair of brothers and performers of the traditional Japanese music style of Tsugaru-jamisen which originated in northern Japan. They debuted in 1999 in Japan as a duo playing the shamisen. Their first album sold over 100,000 copies and made them minor celebrities in Japan, a fact that surprised the Yoshida Brothers themselves. They have since attracted an international audience. Their music has been a fusion of the rapid and percussive Tsugaru-jamisen style along with Western and other regional musical influences. In addition to performing songs that are only on the shamisen, they also use modern instruments such as drums and synthesizers.
