Japanese Core Words and Phrases: Things You Can't Find in a Dictionary EBOOK

Japanese Core Words and Phrases: Things You Can't Find in a Dictionary
Ebook / PDF / 130pages / 4MB

Most other ther books only teach you the meaning of words. If you've looked further into Japanese you'll know that the ways those individual words can be used together can make little sense to those of us who grew up speaking temporal Western languages.

Similar in aim and format to Chino's sentence patterns book, this tackles that contextual side of the language that is hardest for us to understand and if your aim is to speak or just understand Japanese as it is spoken by Japanese people then this is one of a core of only a few text books that can really help you.

A phrase or group of phrases is taken, put into a few appropriate contexts and may be offered further explanation. There are no exercises or tests, just a solid breakdown and explanation of the nuances of the Language.
There's not a lot else to say about the book itself other than it is written in English with translations in Japanese script that is oriented mainly around Hiragana and less around the Kanji.

Not for beginners but immensely helpful

Reading Japanese with a Smile

Reading Japanese with a Smile
184 pages / pdf / english/japanese - Ebook

Learning to read Japanese is a little like running a marathon: it is a long, drawn out process, and it can get a little boring along the way. What we learners of Japanese need is a little fun now and then, something that brings a smile to our faces. As luck would have it, this book does just that. This magic trick is accomplished by the book's nine curious stories. Taken from the weekly magazine "Shukan Asahi," these stories, while true to life, verge on the hard to believe, and that's what evokes the magic element of fun.

But that's not all. Each story is accompanied by a translation, faithfully done and easy to follow. Then, sentence by sentence, follows a short gloss of each word and phrase, a reverse derivation of each declined verb and adjective, detailed notes on vocabulary and grammar, and information and commentary on the cultural background. All of these aids can be accessed easily when needed.

"Reading Japanese with a Smile: Nine Stories from a Japanese Weekly Magazine for Intermediate Learners" represents the best of two worlds -- stories that are both fully annotated and enjoyable to read.
