A recent accident has left Satoru Iwamoto, an elementary school student, temporarily wheelchair-ridden. In addition, the recent loss of his mother has thrown Satoru into a reclusive state, locking himself from the outside world. However, in an effort to help Satoru recover from his injuries, his father, Kaoru, has designed a remote-controlled robot that will go to school in his place and allow him to interact with people and do normal things.

The robot, "piloted" by Satoru from a large control terminal in his room, is nicknamed Hinokio by his classmates. Hinokio is mostly admired by his fellow students, and they together start a generally normal year of school. But the story soon dwells more on Satoru, himself, as he rediscovers love and friendship through classmate Jun Kudo and also his own father.

Ryota ( Abe Hiroshi ) is the 40 year-old son of the Yokoyama family. He has recently married a widow with a ten year-old son from her previous marriage, who are joining him on a rare visit home. Only his elderly parents now live in the house, which once doubled as a flourishing medical clinic. The annex, a medical examining room still boasting a wall of pharmaceuticals, remains unchanged, though the patriarchal doctor has retired. Despite the unchanged outward appearances, everything has slightly aged.

The family has gathered to remember Junpei, the eldest son, who died in a terrible accident fifteen years ago. Ryota has never lived up to his brilliant brother who was supposed to take over the family clinic and remains uncomfortable with his father. Die Frau des 65-jährigen Funakichi (Taga Masaru) ist an Krebs gestorben. Doch der Rentner hält sich nicht lange mit Trauer auf. Trotz fortgeschrittenen Alters schaut er immer noch jedem Rock nach und macht Frauen im Supermarkt an. Mit seinen Kumpels zieht er um die Häuser und erfreut sich an Strip-Shows. Auch ein frisch verheiratetes Ehepaar ist vor seiner Neugier nicht sicher.
Auf einem Klassentreffen seiner früheren Schule trifft Funakichi seine alte Jugendliebe Kazuko (Namikibashi Yasuko) wieder. Sofort entflammt in ihm die alte Leidenschaft, und in ihrem eleganten Kimono sieht sie für ihn immer noch attraktiv aus. Als Funakichi erfährt, dass auch sie gerade ihren Lebenspartner verloren hat und seine Avancen durchaus nicht abweist, landen beide geradewegs in einem Hotelzimmer...

Persönliche Meinung :
Dieser Film zeigt mal wieder typisch was in Deutschland von einem Japanischen Film erwartet wird. ( Sex, Yakusa, Geisha, Samurai, Ninja, richtig ? FALSCH ! ) Alleine der total verfremdete Deutsche Titel - Tasogare bedeutet "Abenddämmerung" und ist poetisch auf das Alter der Personen bezogen und nichts mit Liebesspiel am Abend.
Es gibt viele Sexszenen unzensiert zu sehen, ein Grund für viele trotzdem reinzusehen, der Film selbst birgt jedoch eine andere etwas tiefgreifendere Nachricht !

In Yukihiko Tsutsumis 20th Century Boys (20-seiki Shonen, 2008), a boy named Kenji builds a secret base with his friends and they dream up all sorts of fantastic visions of the future with giant robots and diabolical villains. And, of course, their “Book of Prophecy” includes themselves as the heroes fighting to save the world. 28 years later, Kenji ( Toshiaki Karasawa ) is just your average store manager and has all but forgotten about his childhood fantasies. However, that all changes when an old classmate dies under mysterious circumstances and an entire family goes missing. Around this time, a strange religious cult, led by a man calling himself “Friend” emerges and events from the Book of Prophecy start unfolding exactly as Kenji had imagined.

the sun & relaxing atmosphere there. Okinawa Music ( see older posts ) and some Movies from Okinawa keep reminding my of those nice days.

Hotel Hibiskus is an Japanese Movie telling the story of Okinawa family that runs an old Hotel ( with just one guest ) The mainstar of the movie is the little tom-boy girl MIEKO and the Island Okinawa and all their friendly and relaxed people. If you wanna see and enjoy little of the atmophere of Okinawa - I recommend watching this movie !
